In the movie W, the scene that made me feel like I understood Bush's character the most was the last daydream about baseball. Throughout the movie there are scenes where Bush imagines himself playing baseball and being cheered on by invisible fans. The first baseball scene has Bush in full uniform jumping up and catching the baseball. I feel that this fantasy shows how he feels invulnerable in his youth. This happens at the beginning of the movie where Bush is in college and is named the most promising of his fraternity's recruits. Towards the middle of the movie Bush relives the same fantasy after he gets his own team, though this time Bush is wearing a suit. I believe that this shows an increase in maturity on Bush's part where he is still confidant in his abilities but is more realistic. Then at the end of the movie when Bush is no longer President, the final baseball scene appears. In this scene Bush backs up to catch the baseball in his suit but then fails to catch the ball. Bush then looks as if he lost sight of the ball while staring at the sky and the scene ends without applause. I believe this scene show Bush losing the invulnerable feeling he once had. Aftr failing to find weapins of mass destruction, Bush saw it as being a failure as the President. I feel that all Bush wanted was to be acknowledged that is why he strove to be President and be better than his father. I also think the cheering of the invisible crowd reinforces that theory.

The baseball scenes are rhyming elements. The first baseball scene indicates the beginning of his Presidency and the last marks the end of his second term. You need to reread the mise en scene piece on blackboard and talk about the visual elements in the scene.
