Bone inglourious basterds shosanna

My favorite character from I.G. is Shosanna Dreyfus or her alias Emmanuelle Mimieux. Shoshanna is a survivor! This makes her character so alluring. She has escaped from the Nazis, and she has nothing else to loose. She witnessed and was almost killed herself before running away covered in her dead family member’s blood. The scene that gives me chills is when Emmanuelle prepares from the night that she will finally reach a revenge for all Jews. This is when she puts on her war paint. A woman’s makeup is her war paint especially when performing in front of others. The scene shoots Shosanna in high lighting where her face takes up the scene completely. It is so zoomed in that the viewer can only see parts of her face. This bright lighting contrasts her pale face with the war paint that she violently sleeks across her face. She then rubs in the paint to make blush. The action and the intense red color against her skin makes a contrast. It shows how she feels which is violence and passionate. When she blends the makeup in she is deceiving everyone with angel like rosy cheeks. This scene shows the manipulation of women through their beauty. The camera being so close also symbolizes she is not afraid. The Nazi symbol is in the background. She matches it with her red dress, another sign of manipulation. While she puts on makeup, Shosanna also loads a gun and drinks wine. These two things have intrinsic interest. It is her beauty and confident allure that Fredrick falls in love with. Fredrick dies from the bullets that Shoshanna loads in her gun while she is making herself beautiful. The glass of wine Shosanna drinks reconfirms her roughed attitude.

  1. Emmeline, you need a label with your first and last name and other tags. That is how Brian can chronicle your posts. I read them, but he keeps track of them. Your post tells me what Shashonna is doing and her motivation, but, except for your statement that the camera zooms in, there is too little mise en scene.
