Lucas West Wing

In the pilot episode of West Wing, multiple political issues were introduced. Varying from presidential accidents, Cuban immigration, and prostitution, some of the issues presented were taken more seriously than others. One more serious issue than others involved the Deputy Chief of Staff, Josh. He was in danger of losing his job over a televised debate about religion. At one point he was even told that the President should be advised to fire him. This issue is eventually resolved, with Josh staying at his current position. The episode, although not centered around the issue necessarily, bring up the political question of religion in politics. Is it acceptable, or is it not? It is clear that there is supposed to be a seperation of church and state, but the topic of religion is still touchy, as shown. In the end, I don't think the issue will remain large through the season(s?) of West Wing.
